EO + Giphy FAQ
What’s this I hear about GIPHY and Electric Objects?
Today we’re announcing that the Electric Objects App has been acquired by GIPHY! This good news comes with a bittersweet milestone — after four years, we have decided to shut down the Electric Objects hardware business. While GIPHY will not sell or support new Electric Objects hardware, they are committed to maintaining the EO App for existing customers. Read the full announcement here.
For existing owners of EO1 and EO2
Will my EO1/EO2 continue to work?
Yes! Thanks to the team at GIPHY, your EO1 and EO2 will continue to work exactly the same way.
Will the Electric Objects apps for iOS, Android, and web continue to work?
Yep!
What will happen to the images and videos I have uploaded to Electric Objects?
Nothing! All of your images and videos are safe and sound on GIPHY’s servers. You will continue to be able to access all of your uploaded images and videos just as you always have. If for whatever reason you want to retreive your uploads, we built a simple tool to help you export the images and videos that you've uploaded to the Electric Objects servers. You can find the tool here.
What if I haven’t set up my EO1 or EO2 yet? Will it work?
Yes, it will work!
What will happen to the Art Club subscription service and Art Club collection?
GIPHY has decided to make access to the Art Club collection free for all existing EO1 and EO2 customers. Starting August 1st, 2017, all Electric Objects customers will receive a free lifetime subscription to Art Club. This means that if you have subscribed directly through us or via the Apple App Store, you will not see any new charges posted after August 1st. There is no action required to cancel.
Will you release any new art into Art Club?
We are pausing the Art Club commissions program, but you can find new art in the ever-changing GIPHY TV channels in the Art Club section of the app. And be sure to check out the Community tab for new art uploaded by other members of the community.
Can I get a refund for my Art Club subscription?
Unfortunately, we are unable to issue any refunds for pre-paid or monthly Art Club subscriptions. Your subscription payments have gone directly to the hundreds of artists who have produced over 250 collections for Art Club.
How do I export my data from Electric Objects?
While GIPHY will maintain the existing EO experience, for customers interested in exporting their data, we built a simple tool to help you export the images and videos that you've uploaded to the Electric Objects servers. You can find the tool here.
Is my EO1 or EO2 warranty still valid?
Along with the shut down of the hardware business, we will not be able to continue honoring active warranties. Thank you for your understanding, and apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Do you have any extra EO1s, EO2s, or accessories?
Unfortunately, there are no more EO1s, EO2s, or accessories available for purchase.
...even if I’m on the waitlist for EO2?
Sorry!
How about open sourcing the code?
Good question! Let us think about this one. We'll update this FAQ once we have more answers.

For Art Club artists
What will happen to the art I made for Art Club?
Thanks to the GIPHY Arts team, your art will continue to be available to Electric Objects customers in the EO apps for iOS, Android, and the web, and publicly available at Art Club.
Who owns the art I made for Art Club?
You do! According to our standard Art Club artist agreement, you retain ownership over the artwork, but license that artwork to Electric Objects. As part of this transition, and to ensure continuity of experience for EO customers, we have transferred that license to GIPHY Arts.
Can I make more art for GIPHY?
The GIPHY Arts team loves hearing from new artists. If you’re interested in working with GIPHY, learn more about their submission process here.
What if I have additional questions?
For any additional questions, please email alex@electricobjects.com before June 30th, 2017. After June 30th, you can reach out to the GIPHY Arts team at giphyarts@giphy.com.
